Thank you for examining the FDC radio, I'm sure you will like them. There is the programming file for the FD-160 /460 radios and others for downloading. It is a .rar compressed file, expand it using PK-zip or similar program into a directory you have created.. Run the install program. It will ask for a serial number. Insert any number, this will be OK. The other files emailed are sample frequency lists we use in the Summerland area for the VHF or UHF radios. Download one of these to suit and edit it for your area. This will save much typing in especially for UHF CB. Once entered, most people are not concerned about the frequencies, only the Channel numbers. You can switch the display from Frequency/Channel to Channel number by holding the (F) key down while switching the radio on. If you have the longer, 38cm, 3.1db gain antenna, DO NOT overtighten it when fitting. Antennas do not need to be overtightened. This will damage the plastic covering sleeve. In fact, DO NOT overtighten any of the antennas, it can damage the plastic sleeve. When fitting the radio to the charger the bottom keys tend to jam on the body. Roll the radio in as shown in the pictures, the keys then go in OK. (Pics in downloaded files only.) IMPORTANT: Sometimes the metal contact blades can come up out of their slots above the bottom of the charger. This makes it harder to fully seat the radio and may not contact to correctly charge the battery. Using your fingernail, a biro or small screwdriver etc carefully push the blades back into their slots. Check them often for this action. Removing the radio tends to drag them out. On the UHF FD-460a radios the Channels are usually as follows but may differ to suit different areas. Channel Content. (Set prog. Type - FD-450A, Field - 450-470 MHz. Easily toggled wrong.) 1 to 40 Normal UHF CB Channels. - Free to use, no License required. 41 to 44 Amateur 70cm for Summerland. 45 to 49 Police receive " 50 to 61 Emergency and commercial freqs. 70 to 78 More the same. The gaps are there to allow inserting new freqs found. NOTE: It is illegal to transmit on Channels above 40 without the approporiate License and permission. On the VHF FD-160a 137-174 MHz radios - ( Prog. Type - FD-150A, Field - 130-150 MHz ) 137-144 Commercial, not a lot here. 144-148 Amateur 2m band. 148-174 Govt, marine and commercial. You will need to edit the freqs to suit your own area. You can edit from the keypad. NOTE: It is illegal to transmit on VHF freqs without the appropriate License and permission. BATTERY CHARGING - When you get your radio, charge the battery, it has been in storage and will be low. Most battery short life problems come from undercharging battery periods. The GREEN light may indicate an adequate voltage reached, but not necessarily a full charge. Leave on charge overnight, or 8-12 hours, or 150% estimated usage time to get full charge. Check the charger contact blades for getting out of position. Yours 73, John Alcorn VK2JWA, QTHR, Ph 0266215217, vk2jwa@sarc.org.au
